Three of them are carved with crosshatching at the wide end so would have been used as wax seals

but don't know for sure--but I'd love to think all of the invitations that went out were hand-drawn postcards like this one

The most valuable are those that bear elaborate hand painted iconography relating to the occupation of its owner, especially rarer ones: a baseball player, or a lawyer, or a coroner, say!
