Instituted 1 February 1833 by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. (1833 1864 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised and leftward facing profile of King Friedrich Wilhelm III, circumscribed by name and title and topped by a star indicating a first pattern award, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of FR RETTUNG AUS GEFAHR
