These yukata are beautifully stenciled and dyed in what is a becoming a fast and disappearing Japanese art form with the design usually appearing on both sides of the fabric

The result is a mottled design produced by undyed places in the silk yarn where the cotton warp prevented dye penetration

It's more the weight of homespun  fabrics

In Japan, Noren panels are hung in doorways for decoration or used as room dividers or small curtains. They're also great to use for pillows, quilts, or to use in wearable art garments such as jackets or vests. They can be embellished with additional decorative threads or beading. * Please note these are unfinished panels. They do not have finished edges, a sleeve casing or tabs for hanging.
