Germany, Imperial. A Naval Wound Badge, Black Grade United Republic of the USS Petrel(Verwundetenabzeichen der Marine in Silber). Constructed of slate grey painted bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval chain link wreath, around a central raised anchor overlaid by crosses swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a crimped hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 40. 20 mm (w) x 46. 40 mm (h), weighing 8. 8 grams, with only minor loss of finish evident, in extremely fine condition.
