Designed by Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, the TBF Avenger was a key element of American naval aviation during the fighting in the Pacific theater. Entering service in 1942, the aircraft was used to attack surface targets, especially enemy ships. Its three person crew consisted of a pilot, gunner
