Adashe Women Housing and Empowerment Society (AWHES) is a women-focused housing and empowerment organization registered with the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1990. Since our establishment, we have remained committed to a clear and enduring purpose to ensure that every woman has access to safe, decent housing at a price she can genuinely afford.
Founded on the belief that housing security is fundamental to dignity, economic stability, and family well-being, AWHES was created to respond to the long-standing housing challenges faced by women, low-income earners, and vulnerable families across Nigeria. Over the years, we have evolved into a trusted platform that combines cooperative savings, housing access, financial inclusion, and empowerment initiatives to deliver sustainable outcomes.

Dr. Umma A. Sani, Zinariyar Gabasawar Zazzau, is a humanitarian, housing advocate, and social impact leader dedicated to improving the lives of women and vulnerable families across Nigeria.
She is the Founder and Coordinator of Adashe Women Housing & Empowerment Society (AWHES), a nationwide movement committed to restoring dignity, stability, and opportunity to women facing hardship.
She founded AWHES with a clear and unwavering purpose: to ease the lives of widows and vulnerable women. What began as a modest, community-based initiative has grown into an organization with over 80,000 members nationwide, supporting women through access to affordable housing, skills development, mentorship, and sustainable economic opportunities.Dr. Umma A. Sani’s commitment to women’s empowerment is deeply rooted in lived experience. Raised by a single mother, she witnessed firsthand the resilience, sacrifice, and strength required to keep a family together against adversity. Later in life, following her divorce, she raised her three children independently, gaining a profound understanding of the fear, uncertainty, and responsibility that many women carry daily. These experiences shaped her resolve to create a safe and supportive platform where women can rebuild their lives and secure their families’ futures.
Under her leadership, AWHES launched its pilot housing programme in Kaduna State, with a target of developing 500 affordable homes.Total Awards
