ABOUT

About us

We Provide Women humanitarian
Service Since 1990

Adashe Women Housing and Empowerment Society (AWHES) is a women-focused housing and empowerment organization registered with the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1990. Since our establishment, we have remained committed to a clear and enduring purpose to ensure that every woman has access to safe, decent housing at a price she can genuinely afford.

Founded on the belief that housing security is fundamental to dignity, economic stability, and family well-being, AWHES was created to respond to the long-standing housing challenges faced by women, low-income earners, and vulnerable families across Nigeria. Over the years, we have evolved into a trusted platform that combines cooperative savings, housing access, financial inclusion, and empowerment initiatives to deliver sustainable outcomes.

Meet Our Founder

Dr. Umma A. Sani

Zinariyar Gabasawar Zazzau

Humanitarian, Housing Advocate, and Social Impact Leader in Nigeria

About

Dr. Umma A. Sani, Zinariyar Gabasawar Zazzau, is a humanitarian, housing advocate, and social impact leader dedicated to improving the lives of women and vulnerable families across Nigeria. She is the Founder and Coordinator of Adashe Women Housing & Empowerment Society (AWHES), a nationwide movement committed to restoring dignity, stability, and opportunity to women facing hardship.

Founding of AWHES

She founded AWHES with a clear and unwavering purpose: to ease the lives of widows and vulnerable women. What began as a modest, community-based initiative has grown into an organization with over 10,000 women nationwide, supporting women through access to affordable housing, skills development, mentorship, and sustainable economic opportunities.

Personal Motivation

Dr. Umma A. Sani’s commitment to women’s empowerment is deeply rooted in lived experience. Raised by a single mother, she witnessed firsthand the resilience, sacrifice, and strength required to keep a family together against adversity. Later in life, following her divorce, she raised her three children independently, gaining a profound understanding of the fear, uncertainty, and responsibility that many women carry daily.

These experiences shaped her resolve to create a safe and supportive platform where women can rebuild their lives and secure their families’ futures.

Housing Impact

Under her leadership, AWHES launched its pilot housing programme in Kaduna State, with a target of developing 500 affordable homes. To date, 100 houses have been successfully completed and handed over to women beneficiaries, demonstrating AWHES’s capacity to translate vision into measurable and verifiable impact.

Through strategic partnerships with the Federal Government of Nigeria, Family Homes Funds, and other key stakeholders, the organization continues to expand access to housing and empowerment initiatives across the country.

Recognition & Awards

Dr. Umma Sani’s work has received both national and continental recognition. She was honoured at the Africa Housing Awards as Outstanding Woman in Real Estate and recognised at the African Women’s Conference in Ghana, where she shared AWHES’s vision of building sustainable, women-centred communities across Africa.

Long-Term Vision

Beyond housing delivery, her mission is holistic empowerment. AWHES is developing community-based training centres where women can acquire practical skills, build businesses, generate sustainable income, and confidently provide for their families.

Her long-term vision is to create environments where dignity is restored, families are strengthened, and futures are rebuilt.

Ongoing Commitment

Dr. Umma Sani remains deeply proud of the thousands of women already supported through AWHES and remains steadfast in her commitment to helping more women rise above hardship toward independence, security, and hope.
